NEWS: Locus to support Sunderland BID

Sunderland BID appoints Locus as its partner to plan growth over the next 5 years.

Sunderland BID is the established business-led partnership, whose vision is to create a vibrant city centre with increased opportunities for everyone. Since 2014, the BID has invested more than £5m into the city centre. The BID has worked in close collaboration with the city council and has supported local business owners, stakeholders and other key partners.

Locus will support Sunderland BID over the next 18-months as it plans its own expansion alongside growth in the city.

Locus will support the BID to further develop its vision to raise the profile and reputation of Sunderland as a major economic hub in the north-east. This will include planning for the next 5-years.

Our CEO, Paul Clement, comments: “Sunderland is a city that is changing beyond all recognition. It’s not just the £350 million Riverside development, recently named as the best future place in the UK and which will create 1,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs including in 1 million square feet of Grade A offices. It’s also the incredible vibrancy building as a result of a rapidly changing city centre which is embracing both its commanding position on the River Wear and its rapidly developing seafront location.”

“I don’t think there is any city in the UK right now that is realising its own potential in quite the way that Sunderland is.  That is why I am so thrilled that we have been invited back as partners to the BID team to work with them and other key stakeholders in determining how best to embrace both the physical expansion and the international reputation of Sunderland over the next 5-years.”

Sharon Appleby, CEO of Sunderland BID adds: “We are absolutely delighted to have appointed Locus to work with us on our next renewal.  We have worked really successfully with Paul Clement since the inception of the BID.  It’s a very exciting time for Sunderland and we have some huge ambitions and plans for the future which Locus are best placed to advise us on.”
